For operators managing multiple brands, this emphasis reflects a broader shift in industrial equipment support: maintenance is increasingly being planned, measured and adjusted before breakdowns disrupt production. 

Data-driven fleet management gains a larger role

Burns Industrial Equipment is also highlighting fleet management software as a way for customers to monitor spending, utilization, service history and performance from a central platform. According to the company, its fleet management system can be accessed from desktop or mobile devices and can provide details such as equipment summaries, cost per hour, service summaries, invoice history, planned maintenance summaries, service requests and telemetry readings when available. 

That visibility is especially relevant for managers trying to right-size their fleets. Burns says its fleet management tools are intended to help customers track service and performance, set custom alerts, benchmark spending, reduce excess equipment and minimize downtime through planned maintenance. For facilities where lift trucks are used across multiple shifts, these insights can help leaders compare actual utilization against perceived demand. 

Telemetry connects equipment maintenance to daily decisions

The company’s forklift telemetry offering points to another innovation area: real-time information from Hyster and Yale forklifts. Burns says telemetry can provide operational status, service history and total cost of ownership insights, while systems such as Hyster Tracker and Yale Vision can feed information into centralized cloud-based portals. 

Listed telemetry functions include impact alerts, impact lockout, operator access controls, utilization metrics, real-time status, GPS locati0n, load sensing, diagnostics, battery tracking, inactivity shutdown and digital safety checklists. Burns positions these tools as a way to connect daily equipment behavior with maintenance decisions, operator coaching and long-term fleet planning. 

Operator assist technology moves into the spotlight

Safety-focused technology is also becoming a more visible part of the Burns Industrial Equipment portfolio. The company says its operator assist technology offerings bring Hyster and Yale innovations to customer operations, including forklift collision detection, pedestrian detection, real-time data and tools intended to improve operator awareness. 

Yale’s Reliant operator assist system, for example, is described by Yale as a solution that can monitor environmental inputs and forklift operation, alert operators in real time and use active interventions to help reduce tip-over risk, sudden movements and load-handling issues while leaving the operator in control. Yale also notes that operators should receive training to understand alerts and interventions.

Hyster’s A Series platform reflects a similar move toward application-specific equipment. Hyster says its A Series internal combustion forklifts are engineered for specific application requirements, with configurations for different operating needs and features such as streamlined maintenance, wireless monitoring telemetry and a Dynamic Stability System on every A Series model.

Automation adds another option for high-volume facilities

For operations evaluating more advanced warehouse solutions, Burns also lists robotic trucks among its offerings. The company says automated Hyster and Yale solutions can help facilities scale operations, improve cost efficiency and support modern warehouse workflows. Burns identifies potential benefits such as consistent travel paths, flexible reprogramming for changing layouts and the use of sensors and navigation systems to detect obstacles. 

While automation is not a fit for every site, it is increasingly part of the same conversation as fleet management and equipment maintenance. Facilities with repetitive routes, labor constraints or high-throughput requirements may be more likely to evaluate autonomous lift trucks alongside traditional forklifts, telemetry and operator assist systems.

Compliance and training remain essential

Technology does not replace required training or safe operating procedures. OSHA’s powered industrial truck standard covers safety requirements for the design, maintenance and use of powered industrial trucks, and employers must ensure each operator is competent to operate the equipment safely through required training and evaluation. OSHA also states that training must include formal instruction, practical training and workplace performance evaluation.
